Google has always made GChat spaces visible to users but a recent update made public spaces very easy to find. This can be good and bad. If you want to share a space that any Pomfret user can browse to and join it is very convenient. But if you wanted a private group and inadvertently made it public, then that space is visible for all users to see, including your chat conversation. 

To check your settings follow these instructions:

1. Go to Chat on the left side of your Gmail navigation

2. Scroll to Spaces (below Direct messages)

3. Click on one of your groups (preferably one that you are the manager of)

4. If you see Private next to Members then you can manage the member list and it is not available to join or view

5. If you see All of Pomfret School then anyone can join your group. They can also browse to your group and read all past chat conversations. Most users probably do not want this.

6. If you want to make it private, select the group and choose Space settings
